Funiculi, Funicula

Finally, an exhibition here in my home town, Halifax. "Art Hits the Wall" opens Oct. 23rd at the Mary Black Gallery NSCCD beside Pier 21 and runs for a month. The theme for this event was All Nature Sings and the call for entries was for textile art in hooked rug or quilt format. The juried selection includes 35 pieces. So I am super chuffed to have been selected.

"Funiculi, Funicula"   26"x26"  wet and dry needle felting, hand embroidery, quilting; wool & cottons

This is a tribute to a very dear friend of mine, MSA artist Bette Rothwell, who has now passed on. She mentored a small group of artists in her senior years in Creston, BC and I was fortunate enough to be one. She had a lovely Japanese garden and her home was full of color and warmth.

On a visit one day I was in her garden admiring all the lovely plants and flowers. I soon found myself singing the song "Funiculi, Funicula". Maybe the flowers were already singing it and I just joined in?
